“If human connection is our favorite destination, music is one of the bridges to get there.”
I’m Afzal, the board-certified music therapist behind Anopy, serving older adults across Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.
At a glance
Anopy was founded on a simple belief:
older adults deserve more than care that simply manages symptoms.
They deserve opportunities for connection, joy, creativity, and to feel truly seen.
My mission is to bring evidence‑based music therapy into
the lives of older adults,
supporting their quality of life while creating meaningful experiences
for families, caregivers, and the communities that care for them.
Families, caregivers and community partners say that my sessions support with:
Expression
A way to be heard.
Space for feelings and creativity when words don’t come easily.
Connection
A way to be together.
Creating shared moments that bring people closer.
Memory
A way to reconnect.
Helping familiar memories, emotions, and parts of ourselves come forward.
Why Anopy
Sometimes, music is simply a way of making room for what comes next.
Someone reaching for an instrument. A lyric that hasn’t been sung in years. A visit that runs five minutes longer than it used to. I notice moments like these because they tell me something about the person in front of me, what matters to them, what they respond to, and how they want to engage today.
You don’t have to figure it out alone. Let’s work together.
